Tottenham Hotspur moved third in the Women's Super League table thanks to a dogged 3-2 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Rachel Williams scored the winner in the second half to secure the victory for Spurs, who moved above Manchester United in the standings.

Aston Villa had taken the lead twice in the match, through Emily Gielnik and Rachel Corsie, but Tottenham showed resilience to come back and claim all three points.

The win is a major boost to Tottenham's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Reaction

Tottenham manager Rehanne Skinner was delighted with her team's performance.

"We showed great character and determination to come back from behind twice and win the game," she said.

"Aston Villa are a good team, so we knew it would be a tough match. But we stuck to our game plan and got the job done."

Aston Villa manager Carla Ward was disappointed with the result, but praised her team for their effort.

"We're obviously disappointed to lose the game, but I'm proud of the way my team played," she said.

"We created a lot of chances and played some good football. But Tottenham were clinical in front of goal and deserved to win the game."
